What is Term life insurance?
Term life insurance means that it has a pre-determined expiration that is a set at the time of the purchase. As long as the premiums are paid each month and the policy is inforce, the beneficiaries are paid the full death benefit if the policy holder dies during that period.
Term life insurance costs less than permanent life insurance policies, such as whole life and variable life. These policies are more affodable because the policy accrues no cash value (there are some exceptions) and because the policy is guaranteed to end within a certain number of years. The insurance company hopes the term will expire before the policy holder dies.
